Well Water | Episode 10

What is your testimony?  Who might it cause to believe?  Will you, can you, share it?

This week, we are on episode 10 of Bible Talk, where we talk about the story of the women at the well. Let’s dig in!

Listen along to the episode here or on your favorite podcast app.

You know why the story of the woman at the well in John 4 is so good?  It’s because Jesus knew exactly who this woman was before he ever met her.  He knew all the things she had done.  All the husbands (and not husbands) this woman had had.  And he talked to her anyway.

I argue that he passed through Samaria just to speak to this woman.  This might even be more significant than all the other morally questionable people he associated with.  Why?  Because she was not a Jew.  Even the Jewish tax collectors would have avoided a Samaritan.  Jesus is showing that not only is he willing to speak to a woman, but a Samaritan woman, one who had lots of husbands.  One who his people hated.  And He offers her the same living water he offers to the Jews.  And she accepts it!

When Jesus knows all about her she doesn’t try to make excuses.  When she finally understands who he is she can’t contain it.  She doesn’t lose steam on the way either.  She doesn’t let self-doubt or shame stop her from telling the Good News.

“Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.” John 4:39
