Listen along to the episode here or on your favorite podcast app.

Esther is one of only two books in the Bible titled by the female main character.  (Ruth is the other one.)  It also does not really reference God. So why do I think it is important?  First of all, a verse that you have probably heard before is in it.  “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.” 4:14  I have referenced it many times in my life.  It means that maybe God put you wherever you are for a very specific reason.  In Esther’s case, to save the Jewish people in the Persian kingdom from execution.

Second of all, while reading Esther I couldn’t help but notice how she was who she was.  As she came into a place of power and recognition, she remained the same.  She was open to counsel.  She was brave.  When it became time to act, she did.

Esther became queen of Persia because the king liked the way she looked.  He had no idea who she was or where she came from.  Esther could have remained quiet when her people needed her, but she didn’t.  She risked her life.

Would you do that?  When push comes to shove are you willing to stand up?
