I’ve been thinking. If my purpose is to bring glory to the Lord in all that I do and I am delighting myself in the Lord, trusting in him and seeing the desires of my heart change…what next?
The point of striving for this is the peace that will come. And it’s not the peace that we think of. It’s not the lack of strife and conflict. It is a peace that surpasses all understanding.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
I want to draw your attention to 2 words in this verse and what the original Greek shows us about what this verse means and how it ties into the glory and desires of the Lord.
peace – eiréné – derived from a verb meaning to join or to tie together into a whole
*primarily denotes a state of tranquility, harmony, and well-being
*It is used to describe both the absence of conflict and the presence of positive blessings, such as safety, prosperity, and spiritual peace.
The term is often associated with the peace that comes from a right relationship with God.
*The Biblical concept of peace extends beyond mere absence of strife to encompass a holistic sense of well-being and fulfillment – in Hebrew tradition this aligns with the concept of Shalom which includes completeness, soundness, and welfare…divine gift often linked to the work of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. surpasses – huperecho – conveys the idea so surpassing or excelling in quality, status or importance
*reflects the transformative values of the kingdom of God https://biblehub.com/greek/5242.htm
Do you see what this means?!?! See how it all ties together?!?! This is what God wants us to have. Not only did he provide payment for our salvation, he also is giving us this all encompassing tranquility that blows our tiny minds. Try it.
