Gratitude is recognizing that we have not done everything for ourselves, but we depend on others and need to appreciate them for what they do for us.

Am I expressing genuine gratitude for what I have given? Do I feel I have what I have because I deserve it? Am I entitled to it? Or worse, do I think I did myself? Does my faith feel stagnant because I have not properly, sincerely thanked the Lord for what he has done in my life?

Generosity is the mother of ingratitude.

Hernan Diaz, Trust

If this is true, and I think it is, how am I different from the Israelites in Hosea? They had a good God who was generous.  And so do we.  Same God. Does ingratitude lead to complacency?

The opposite of the folks of Hosea is Jacob.  Instead of sitting back and waiting for God to bestow his next blessing, Jacob relentlessly went after it.  He demanded a blessing.  He and the Lord wrestled all night and finally the Lord said what it is it you want?  Not because Jacob was stronger or about to pin him to the ground, but because Jacob had proved how serious he was about getting all God had to offer and all God had promised to him.
